Calm-Down Sensory Bottles
Create a mesmerizing, soothing jar filled with glitter and colors. Watch as the sparkles slowly drift to the bottom to help you relax and feel calm.
Materials
- clear plastic bottles with lids (1 per person)
- purified water (approx. 1/4 to 1/2 bottle)
- clear soap or glycerin (enough to fill the remainder of the bottle)
- glitter (assorted sizes/colors, 2-3 tablespoons)
- small decorative items like orbeez or polymer clay shapes (1-2 teaspoons)
- food coloring (optional, 1-2 drops)
- E6000 industrial strength glue (1 tube)
Safety
- E6000 glue releases toxic fumes. Use in a well-ventilated area or outdoors.
- Adult supervision required for sharp objects.
- Protect work surface. Materials may stain clothing.
- Adult supervision required for children under 8.
Steps
- Fill your plastic bottle partially with purified water. Note: Using less water creates more 'hang time,' making the glitter fall more slowly.
- Add your chosen 'toppings' to the water, such as chunky glitter, fine glitter, or small decorative items like orbeez or polymer clay shapes.
- If you want a specific color, add 1-2 drops of food coloring now (though some glitters may change the water color naturally).
- Fill the rest of the bottle all the way to the top with clear soap or glycerin. This thick liquid is what slows down the glitter.
- Apply a generous amount of E6000 glue to the threading of the bottle neck and the inside threading of the lid.
- Press the lid on tightly and let the bottle sit undisturbed for 12 to 24 hours to allow the glue to cure completely.
- Once cured, shake the bottle vigorously in all directions to ensure all glitter and decorations are fully coated in soap and moving freely.
