Materials

• cardboard craft roll or toilet paper roll (1)
• creamy peanut butter (1/4 cup)
• bird seed (2 cups)
• yarn (2 feet)
• clear adhesive tape (4 pieces, 2-inch length each)
• shallow pan or tray (1)

• Check for peanut allergies before starting; substitute peanut butter with lard or vegetable shortening (Crisco) if necessary.
• Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling bird seed and peanut butter.

Steps

1. Pour the bird seed into a shallow pan or tray to make it easier to roll the feeder in.
2. Using the plastic knife, scoop a small amount of peanut butter and spread it evenly all around the outside of the cardboard roll.
3. Ensure the peanut butter covers the top and bottom edges of the roll so the seeds stick everywhere.
4. Roll the peanut-butter-covered craft roll through the bird seed in the pan, pressing down gently so the seeds adhere to the sticky surface.
5. Shake off any excess seeds that aren't stuck to the roll.
6. Cut a piece of yarn to approximately 2 feet in length.
7. Place a piece of tape on one end of the yarn and press it firmly against the inside top edge of the roll.
8. Place another piece of tape on the other end of the yarn and secure it to the opposite inside top edge of the roll, creating a handle/loop for hanging.
9. Take the completed feeder outside and hang it from a sturdy tree branch or a potted plant where birds can easily find it.
