DIY Paper Seed Bombs
Create eco-friendly seed bombs using recycled paper! These little balls of nature can be tossed into your garden or a vacant lot to help wildflowers grow and support local bees.
Tools
- blender
- mixing bowl
- strainer or colander
- towel
Materials
- scrap paper or newspaper (4 cups, torn into small pieces)
- warm water (8 cups)
- wildflower seed mix (1/4 cup)
- potting soil (1/2 cup)
Safety
- Adult supervision required when using the blender.
- Wash hands thoroughly after handling soil and seeds.
- Be careful with warm water to avoid burns.
Steps
- Tear the scrap paper into tiny pieces (about 1 inch squares) and place them into the blender.
- Add 8 cups of warm water to the blender and blend on high until the paper becomes a thick, mushy pulp.
- Pour the paper pulp into a strainer or colander and squeeze out the excess water using a towel until the pulp feels like damp clay.
- Place the damp paper pulp into a mixing bowl.
- Stir in 1/2 cup of potting soil and 1/4 cup of wildflower seeds, mixing them thoroughly with your hands until the seeds are evenly distributed.
- Scoop out a small amount of the mixture and roll it between your palms to form a ball about the size of a golf ball.
- Place the seed bombs on a tray or towel and let them dry completely (usually 24 to 48 hours).
- Once dry, toss your seed bombs into a garden area or a patch of soil and water them well to start the growing process!
