Steps

  1. Fill a large pot with 4 quarts of water and bring it to a boil over high heat.
  2. Add the 1 lb box of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to the package instructions until tender.
  3. Drain the pasta using a colander and rinse it with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  4. Divide the cooked spaghetti evenly among 5-6 mixing bowls.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the total batch of pasta (distributed among bowls) and toss gently; this prevents the noodles from sticking together.
  6. Add 5-10 drops of a different food coloring to each bowl (e.g., red in one, blue in another, yellow in another).
  7. Stir the pasta in each bowl until the color is evenly distributed and the noodles are brightly dyed.
  8. Pour the colorful spaghetti into the large plastic storage bin, mixing the colors together or arranging them in rainbow stripes.
