Steps
- Fill a large pot with 4 quarts of water and bring it to a boil over high heat.
- Add the 1 lb box of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to the package instructions until tender.
- Drain the pasta using a colander and rinse it with cold water to stop the cooking process.
- Divide the cooked spaghetti evenly among 5-6 mixing bowls.
- Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the total batch of pasta (distributed among bowls) and toss gently; this prevents the noodles from sticking together.
- Add 5-10 drops of a different food coloring to each bowl (e.g., red in one, blue in another, yellow in another).
- Stir the pasta in each bowl until the color is evenly distributed and the noodles are brightly dyed.
- Pour the colorful spaghetti into the large plastic storage bin, mixing the colors together or arranging them in rainbow stripes.
- Set the bin on a table or floor and let the toddler explore the textures and colors with their hands.
