Magic Oobleck Slime
Create a mysterious substance that acts like both a liquid and a solid! You'll learn about non-Newtonian fluids as you watch your slime melt through your fingers but stay hard when you punch it.

Materials
- cornstarch (1 cup)
- water (1/2 cup)
- food coloring (2-3 drops)
- mixing tray or shallow dish (1)
Safety
- Adult supervision is recommended to prevent messes.
- Do not eat the oobleck.
- Do not pour oobleck down the sink drain as it can clog pipes; dispose of it in the trash.
- Protect work surface. Materials may stain clothing.
- Do not wrap string around neck or limbs.
- Adult supervision required for children under 8.
Steps
- Pour 1 cup of cornstarch into your mixing bowl.
- Add 2 to 3 drops of your favorite food coloring into 1/2 cup of water and stir until the color is mixed.
- Slowly pour the colored water into the bowl with the cornstarch.
- Stir the mixture with a spoon until the cornstarch and water are fully combined.
- Test the slime with your hands: try to poke it quickly (it should feel hard) and then let your fingers sink in slowly (it should feel like a liquid).
- Pour the finished oobleck onto a shallow tray or dish to play with it and experiment with its magic properties.
