Steps

  1. Tie one end of the string securely to a heavy object, like a chair or a door handle.
  2. Anchor Point Tie Securely Tie one end of the string securely to a heavy object (chair or door handle).
  3. Thread the plastic straw onto the string so that the string passes all the way through the center of the straw.
  4. Thread the string Straw String Pass the string through the center hole of the straw
  5. Pull the string tight and tie the other end to a second heavy object across the room, making sure the string is a flat, straight line.
  6. Pull tight Start End point Pull the string tight and tie it to a second heavy object
  7. Blow up the balloon about halfway and pinch the end shut with your fingers to keep the air inside (do not tie it!).
  8. Pinch shut! Balloon Fingers Blow up the balloon halfway and pinch the end shut
  9. While holding the balloon shut, use pieces of tape to attach the balloon to the straw. The balloon should be positioned so the opening is facing the starting point of the string.
  10. Tape Straw Tape here Tape the balloon securely to the straw
  11. Push the balloon and straw back to the start of the string.
  12. Let go of the pinched end of the balloon and watch your rocket blast off across the room!
